@Graham: Issue 519 is not of relevance here.

@Phil: We are getting nearer.  The next question is whether the Pango  
interface on Windows really uses lilypond's CenturySchL font for computing  
metrics (and thus kerning values).  Can you use strace on GNU/Linux and  
something similar on Windows (e.g. ProcessMonitor, cf.  
http://kohei.us/2010/06/25/strace-equivalent-for-windows/) to check that?
