Hi Greg,

The real devs talk in the devel list, not all of them keep an eye on the user list (althogh I’m not sure if this would be too appropriate on the devel list). Jean forwarded you mail to the devel list anyway.

I think most people here love to hear some positive feedback by new users, and it is nice to see you join the community.

Considering that you have been a professional programmer:

In my opinion Lilypond is one of these kind of softwares that blur the line between users and programmers. Lilypond more or less consists of three layers:

1) The lilypond language (user level)

2) The underlying dynamic scheme interface (user and developer level)

3) The hardcoded C++ core (developer level)

Each user will trickle down this path to some individual extent. Especially if you follow this mailing list you will learn many tricks, because as you go down this road Lilypond becomes increasingly powerful and complex.

Maybe one day you’ll also contribute snippets to Lilypond or even core functionality! While I’m not one of the old stagers in Lilypond I think everyone here loves too see new faces in Lilypond!
