Hi,

I analyzed the log and I noticed two things:

- you set an upload bandwidth limit to 128kb/s (kilo bits per seconds),
which corresponds to the 15KB (kilo bytes) you are observing

Silly me, why didn't I think of that?! :)

Seriously though, wouldn't it be better to have the bandwidth control limits specified in kilo bytes instead of the current kilo bits? This would avoid confusing naive users such as myself. Much of what happens on a computer or on the internet is in kilobytes nowadays (downloads in a web browser, file sizes in a file manager, etc.), so I would guess that your average John Doe would be happier with defining settings in kilobytes. I for one have never quite made a difference between bits and bytes, well, up until now. :)

- however despite of that you have a significant packet loss rate, as
shown in the statistics, as well as late packets:

Yes, Skype voice and video also freezes from times to times, before it normalizes. But it is generally bearable.

linphone-message : number of rtp packet sent=5857
linphone-message : number of rtp bytes sent=183710 bytes
linphone-message : number of rtp packet received=5705
linphone-message : number of rtp bytes received=165029 bytes
linphone-message : number of incoming rtp bytes successfully delivered
to the application=160699
linphone-message : number of times the application queried a packet
that didn't exist=11717
linphone-message : number of rtp packet lost=128
linphone-message : number of rtp packets received too late=150
linphone-message : number of bad formatted rtp packets=0

Which is unfortunately usual with wifi, depending on the signal
receiving conditions.

That's a nice tip, thanks for sharing. I'll voiping with the cable connection, to see teh difference.

Packet losses in audio disturb a lot echo cancellers.

So if you are sure you have the bandwidth for, you can increase the
upload bandwidth limit in the codec tab of the settings, which will
result in better quality.

I've tested my internet connection with voipreview [1] and I get 562kbps downloads and 628kbps uploads, which are in the 70KB range that I noticed Skype was using. I'll try with the new limits and report back.

Liviu

Sure. I'm sending you the log and the config file that I used on both
machines. As explained previously, the up speed never went above 15KB
although my internet connection is capable of more, and the CPU doesn't go
above 60% (dual core in both cases). Generally the image is quite
pixelised, but if any significant movement occurs it quickly becomes
unbearably distorted and doesn't always/easily return to normal. Apart
from random echoing (the cancellation sometimes doesn't work), the audio
is flawless.

Please let me know if I can provide more info. Regards
Liviu
