Yes, every 4 hours, mldonkey performs a "walk" on his server list, to
keep informed of which servers are still alive. This is necessary,
since many servers don't reply to UDP requests anymore, for reasons
that you understand easily if you start a server. Consequently, being
connected to one single server does not give you a complete view of
the world.

The 4 hours delay is quite non-aggressive. It is hardcoded, and could
probably be changed to an even less aggressive delay (6 hours, 12
hours ?) in the future. The connections are "light", in the sens that
the list of shared files is not sent, and only a few queries are done
during the short delay (1 minute, but 2 minutes in next version) it
stay connected. If the server is already full (ie overloaded), it will
not accept the TCP connection (1 TCP packet in, 1 TCP packet out), so
that it should not bother it a lot.
