Follow-up Comment #55, bug #46521 (project octave):

I believe Octave's behaviour for that syntax is implicitly chosing the first
element in the array as the one used for the colon operator.
The only difference between versions is that it now warns about it.
Maybe something like this would be easier to understand:

for i = find (f <= N, 1, "first"):LEN_F
