Follow-up Comment #15, bug #49685 (project octave): That's almost exactly what I was planning to do. I'll post an updated patch soon. But instead of using a new `.encoding` file, I believe it would be ok to use the PKG_ADD script that already does what we need. A user would add a PKG_ADD files in the folders they plan on adding to Octave's load path.
