Follow-up Comment #19, bug #49685 (project octave): Another issue (and one that we might want to discuss separately from this bug report) is whether we want to discourage the use of PKG_ADD files and possibly eliminate them in the future. My concern is that PKG_ADD files may contain arbitrary code, so an addpath command could potentially do some damage.
