Follow-up Comment #41, bug #46451 (project octave):

This patch shouldn't lead to any warnings. It is in git format, so please
tweak it as needed. I believe there's enough benefit to the octave users to
justify not dragging this much longer. Thanks, and sorry for the slow
responsiveness. Took longer to fix a couple of integers than it took to
implement the whole thing. :)
