Follow-up Comment #4, bug #64711 (project octave):

If it is indeed a single author who is referred to in the sentence, then I
would suggest '... is actually the name of one of the author's former
professors, Octave Levenspiel, who wrote a famous textbook ...', adding an 's'
and two commas. Given the 4th paragraph on the page, that would reasonably be
interpreted as referring to John W. Eaton, in spite of the reference to 'many
others'.
