Follow-up Comment #8, bug#65285 (group octave):

I had just recompiled with the comment #6 patch and was about to say I thought
it looked fine and worked well. I didn't see the extra vertical space you were
referring to.  where would I look for that?

I'll try out the comment #7 patch shortly.
