Follow-up Comment #11:

Like already mentioned, the GitHub CI succeeded with that change.
Unfortunately, that means that Octave has a new dependency on macOS.
When it comes to potentially graft the gnulib update to the stable branch: I'm
not sure if we'd like to change dependency requirements for minor releases.
(It's not a "full-blown" API or ABI change though afaict.)
We could probably ask for the opinion of others during next online developer
meeting.

Anyway, closing this report as fixed (in the CI rules).
