I also have this error. My dejagnu is version dejagnu-971028.

I  got something different:

ERROR: Couldn't find tool config file for unix.

make[1]: *** [check] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/src/CVS/octave'

What dejagnu version is recomended? To 'make check' egcs, dejagnu-971028  was 
the
egcs-recommended version.
