This link suggests that that there is no SRTM format, that is the name of the
mission (and data that the mission collected). It does mention however that
it's mainly distributed as hgt file format

However the external links of that page suggest that you can have the
data on many other file formats. Is your implementation supposed to read
hft files? Because it seems to simple to handle that format.
