Follow-up Comment #1:

AFAICS your patch is on top of the one in patch #8316, which unfortunately
doesn't apply anymore against current dev version (or 4.0.0-rc3).

Your patch itself applies cleanly but lacks e.g., variable-editor.h

Could you supply one changeset that includes the one from patch #8316 and
yours that applies to the current dev sources?
