Follow-up Comment #14, patch #8656 (project octave):

Ouch! You may have a hard time getting Octave to build with Visual Studio.
If you want to compile & debug natively, use mxe-octave on Windows (see the
wiki).
It'll take a long time (much much longer than cross-building on Linux) but it
should work.
