gtk2 and it's friends. 'pan' from cvs is pre-0.12 code which uses gtk2/atk/pango
and glib2 instead of the gtk 1.2 stuff most everyone uses. gtk2 was only
released last week so no suprise it isn't widely used yet.

look on the pan site somewhere for info on installing the other pan branch from
current 0.11.* branch ...
