let met clarify this, for those not familiar with named pipes:
the pipe in this case is named '.sig', or something similar, and programs
can read from it just as if it were a regular file.

one of the niftier features of UNIX. :)

Why not post the code for something of this sort (so we all do not have to hunt for it, or repeat the development of such a trivial item.
Then it should be easy to implement for almost anybody.
