I'd tend to go with the latter: compiling Pan with Fink's libraries,  
but not
with Fink, seems like it could easily lead to Bad Things happening.

In any event, downgrading to 0.109 seems to have fixed the problem.   
I'll
look through the changes made between .109 and .110, but I doubt I'll
be able to find the culprit.
