If the thread gets long and a short quote from a grandparent post is 
needed for context, it can screw up proper replies.  However, I 
personally still consider it somewhat less of an offense than HTML, 
because I've never read about top-posting spreading malware, as I have 
about HTML messages.

I'm tired enough I'm not sure this makes sense, but wanted to get the 
reply in before I sleep...  Try view, header-pane, show only my articles, 
then set match subthreads (or match entire threads if you want upstream 
as well as downstream).  I sometimes use that method here.  Just don't 
forget to reset it to normal afterward, as one time I forgot I had it set 
to my articles only, and wondered why the groups suddenly got so quiet...
