So that was not the issue. With --enable-debug, the optimization
prevents that analysis from running in my compiler.
However, if I enable it there are other areas using uninitialized variables:

'uiZ' may be used uninitialized in this function
[-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]
return uZ.f;
I'll send a new version. I'll add a warning in the cover letter for
these unmerged fixes anyway.
