If I add -prom-env "boot-device=hd:,\ofwboot.xcf", I get "No valid state has been set by load or init-program".
If I use hd:0,\ofwboot.xcf instead it hangs after ">> Not a bootable ELF image >> switching to new context:".

for upstream and haven't had a chance to look yet.
Do you know what the exact error you were seeing was? If you boot your
image with -nographic can you grab the backtrace and post in on
qemu-ppc? At least there it gives others as well as me a chance to reply.
