PS:

This issue seems similar to the one reported here:
https://www.freelists.org/post/slint/Slint-15-Orca-problem

I just checked, I upgraded spd to version 0.11.2 on Friday 26 August 2022 in the
repository in concern. I also upgraded the kernel

Also, when using one of the mbrola voices, speech is very very fast.
