Good point. I am currently running Gentoo "amd64" (stable) with some manually added ~amd64 (unstable) packages added.
Clisp was 2.47 at the time of posting this. Since then I have upgraded to 2.48 which seems to have fixed gimp crashing when no images are open. If I open an image and then try to quit it crashes...
I am going to try the NULL fix that Shawn mentioned and rebuild clisp.
