Hi, 
I have been using StumpWM for Debian, Ubuntu and FreeBSD from source and
their standard packaging procedure. I haven't seen this issue.

Font loading is mostly depends upon your xorg.conf. Can you check that
how many fonts lib are loading from xorg?
