RE: Converting docs to html

At one point in the past I had to convert Word documents to HTML.  I was
dismayed, as you apparently were, by Word's conversion tool.  I took one of
two approaches for each document that I had to convert, though I hope
someone else will know of something better.

1) Place the content of the Word document on the clipboard and then paste it
into a blank Netscape Composer page.  Then edit the results where necessary.
I often did it this way because Word's conversion mutilated everything so
much that I often found it easier just to remove all formatting (pasting the
text into Composer has that effect) and re-formatting it in Composer, which
of course saves as HTML.  (It's a free HTML-editing program that comes with
the Netscape Communicator suite, in other words download it for free if you
don't already have it)

2) As a variation on the first, use Word's conversion and then clean up the
mess in Composer.

These are kluges...  I hope you find something better.

A few weeks back there was some discussion about including model runs in
journal submissions, e.g., by citing a web site where animations are
posted. I was surprised to find out that the journal I'm submitting to
actually has its own site where authors are to post supporting material.

So now I need to convert our model formulation document from Word to
html. The Word "save as html" so-called feature creates a file that is
readable but not exactly something to be proud of.

Anybody know a good (i.e., cheap, easy, fast) way to convert elaborate
Word docs into HTML?
