Subject: [POL-CAS] NYT Op-Ed Today
There was an interesting op-ed piece in today's New York Times,
available on the web at:
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/04/opinion/04STRO.html
(you may have to create an account to see it).
Cornell mathematician/author Steven Strogatz plays off the 50th
anniversary of Watson & Crick to claim that the real scientific breakthrough of
1953 was the "computer experiment," as developed by Fermi, Pasta, and Ulam at
Los Alamos. He treats the history of Fermi's first findings, and ties it to a
range of contemporary applications.
Enjoy! --Chris
