From: David McKinnon

Scientist: Model and Decision Support
Tropical Aquaculture
Marine Biotechnology
Position no. 276

The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) conducts marine research
for the sustainable development, conservation and management of marine
resources. Its main research facility is located at Cape Ferguson, 50 km
from Townsville. It also has a base in Fremantle, and is currently
developing a new facility in Darwin.

AIMS is seeking to recruit a talented modeller to join a dynamic and
innovative research team to provide predictive management tools for the
expansion of aquaculture in coastal areas of Indonesia and Australia. The
position will contribute to developing and applying quantitative models -
such as agent-based models and network models - that address the
biophysical, social and economic dimensions of natural resource use in
northern Australia and Indonesia, with particular reference to implications
for resource use management, planning and policy. This project is supported
by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

The successful person will have a PhD or equivalent scientific experience in
a discipline relevant to systems modelling applicable to investigating
interrelationships between the biophysical, social and economic dimension of
natural resource management in a coastal zone context. High level
experience in complex systems modeling techniques (e.g. agent-based models
or Bayesian Belief Networks) combined with skills in developing theoretical
frameworks and applying quantitative models is required. Strong
interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work and
interact with a multidisciplinary team of scientists is also essential.

The position is based at the Townsville facility and will be full-time (nine
days per fortnight) for a fixed term of 2.5 years, at a salary of $59,953
per annum (AOF Level 4.2 as determined by qualifications and experience)
plus superannuation.
