EPOS 2006 II Edition
Epistemological Perspectives On Simulation
5-6 October 2006
Brescia, Italy
Web site: www.eco.unibs.it/epos

EPOS is a cross-disciplinary workshop on methodological and epistemological issues regarding computer simulation (in particular, agent-based models). The first edition was held in Koblenz 2004 (http://www.uni-koblenz.de/EPOS/), by Ulrich Frank and Klaus Troitzsch. EPOS 2004 proceedings have been published in a special issue on Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation (http://jasss.soc.surrey.ac.uk/8/4/7.html).

EPOS II will be held in Brescia, Italy, 5-6 October 2006. Invited speakers are Rosaria Conte (CNR, Rome) and Nigel Gilbert (Surrey, UK). It is sponsored by University of Brescia, Lucchini Foundation, and ESSA (European Social Simulation Association). Participation is free of charge (luncheons and social dinner included). You can find details on EPOS web site: www.eco.unibs.it/epos

Authors are requested to send an extended abstract of about 1000 words in electronic format (.doc, .rtf or .pdf format) via e-mail to Flaminio Squazzoni (address@hidden). Authors should include all the details about surname, first name, affiliation, mailing address, country, and e-mail  inside the e-mail text (not inside the abstract).

Important deadlines are as follows:

31 May 2006 extended abstract submission deadline

30 June 2006 acceptance or rejection notification

31 August 2006 full papers receipt, if authors wish to have their papers included in the workshop proceedings that will be available, in a printed format, to participants and in on-line version on web (otherwise, just abstracts will be included)

A not restricted list of workshop topics includes items as follows:

Link between theory and simulation models;

Empirical reality and data in simulation models;

Internal and external validation strategies and methods in computational models;

Examples of models able to integrate computational modelling and other research methods (such as, for example, experimental, statistical, qualitative methods);

Epistemological issues on theory building and computer simulation;

Common points and differences between physical and social complex systems modelling;

Epistemological consequences of generative method and explanation

Best regards
