AFAIK this is a planned feature (in the mid- to long-term ;-) ). It's also
important for users with different keyboard layouts. E.g. the zoom actions
involving the Z key are almost unusable on german keyboards, because Y and Z
are swapped. (Although personalized (aka "messed up") keymaps could be horrible
from a supporter's point of view.)

Btw. may I ask you what GUI experts think of mouse gestures? My experience is
that it takes some days to get used to, but then it's just so intuitive that
I've performed them accidentally in all kinds of programs. But I can also
imagine that absolute beginners would not be able to use them at all, because
it's something they have to remember by heart, and a certain speed and
precision with the mouse is required.

IMO soft selection is very similar to mouse gestures. It also takes time to
learn the commands by heart, and both concepts are just too much for beginners
;-) but great for skilled users. Maybe the soft selections should co-exist with
the traditional point-and-click concept just as mouse gestures do? (That would
require lots of new control widgets...)

Last week I started Samplitude for the first time after some weeks, and the
first thing I did was press [D] to move a clip. Well, that's a good sign I
guess :-D

Best,
Nic
