I was never clear if the `a' and `b' were alpha and beta or something
else in the LP releases.
Allowing for only one alpha seems wrong.
I come from old-school, with a release branch being made and
going through alpha and beta releases with tags marking them.
Although, many git projects have moved away from this and keep
main branch release-quality and just cut releases off of it.
This seems attractive.
We can discuss this and look for examples. Right now, lets get
main to something we think is approaching release quality.
