I think you are behind firewall.

Try these commands:
# ping scs.yahoo.com
# telnet scs.yahoo.com 5050

If they fail, then clearly you are behind firewall.

BTW, which GNUYahoo you are using. Yahoo changed their
protocol several times during the development of GNUYahoo.

is know to work.

How ever  We have discontinued GNUYahoo and moved to FreeHoo. 
FreeHoo will soon become a part of GNU Project.
Would you like to try it?

We will soon make a public release of FreeHoo, if you
would like to try and contribute in bug hunting before the
release, it will be great.
