I finally ported forward the syntax highlighter proof-of-concept I wrote in
the old Zi fork {ZILE without the L(isp) E(ngine)} into the Zz editor tree
of current master, and you can install it right now, as long as you have a
working Lua 5.2 with LuaRocks in your PATH

This all looks Most Excellent. Congratulations!

Thanks :-)

It's definitely done they agile way - the smallest amount of change that
could possibly work - and my knowledge of Lua and stdlib idioms has
improved enough in the 2 years since I first wrote that code that plenty
of it makes me wince a little now. But, the important thing is that it works,
and even in its current state is very usable.

I've fixed a few more buglets, and almost have nested grammars working
now. I have a custom YAML mode for editing Specl spec-files that drops
Into the Lua grammar for highlighting the Specl examples - while I was
able to reuse bits of the TextMate YAML grammar, that one was biased to
writing ruby-on-rails, so I've mostly thrown it away and made a new one.
Once I've ironed out the last few wrinkles I'll push the changesets.

It's nice that Zz can now do something that neither Vi nor Emacs does a
good job of, and I've been using exclusively for Zile development for a
couple of weeks now.

Cheers,
