        Sure, anything is possible.  It's in large part a matter of
people committing time and effort to do it, and then actually coming
through with that time and effort.

        In the case of forms, searches, and mods involving the options
menu and rc file handling, you have the problem that the code is a
sandcastle of escalating hacks, and the chances of continuing to just
hack in more without breaking what's already there or having the whole
castle collapse are slim, IMHO.  The Unix DIRED support is in the state,
and worse because it doesn't fully work, whereas the form, search and
options handling is presently doing everything that it's intended to do,
even if it's not everything one could want.
