I'm afraid I have to disagree.  (I missed most of the original discussion
on this :-).

In my opinion, the vital thing is to make the user aware of mistakes being
made in the real world.  Then they can make the conscious effort to view it
in another manner.

Personally, I think the whole idea of putting in the extra <br> handling
code was a big mistake.  But it's there.

I feel that by hiding the problems from the users, we are just
contributing to it.  Users are more intelligent then you think.  And if
they have it explained to them that the standards are being broken,
then they just might take action (hopefully complaining to the site).

But, if indeed they are lazy, they can simply change their personal option
to the broken way of handling the code and go on their merry little way.

I feel like we're the government, deciding what's best for the little
people because they can't make intelligent decisions for themselves.

We should always default to correct handling of the standard, then allow
the users alternative ways of handling it.
