That's quite a neat idea.  Then you could use the general cert
selector to find the new revision given the old one.

I guess it just never seemed quite important enough.  Such history
rebuilds are rare, and tend to be things you can plan, so you just try
to arrange not to need revision ids (by noting suitable selectors of
important revisions (perhaps by tagging them)).

Come to think of it, you could easily make the certs yourself: just
make the certs on the old database ("monotone automate select i:"
gives you all revision ids, and "monotone cert" lets you construct
some suitable cert), then do the conversion and they'll be carried
across.
