Another interresting discovery: After om_gtk refuses to some back up 
gimp freezes when clicking "save as...". So something gtk-ish is 
completely messed up...

I should note that my system is otherwise very stable. Is is a quite new 
install of debian/stable with a few packages from sid and the patched 
kernel from demudi. I run openbox and my terminal emulator (that i start 
om/om_gtk from) is mrxvt.
