Missing fonts in FC2 and 0.6.16

FC2 uses xorg rather than XFree86.  Are there differences that prevent
skencil from finding fonts?

When I start skencil, I get:

shared memory images supported
Could not load font '-misc-fixed-medium-*-*-*-11-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1' for 
ruler. using defaults.
Could not load font '-misc-fixed-medium-*-*-*-11-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1' for 
ruler. using defaults.
Could not load font '-misc-fixed-medium-*-*-*-[0 11 ~11 0]-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1' 
for ruler. using defaults.

If I attempt to use text, I get pop-ups with similar errors, just with
specific font names.
