Yes, when TeX Math mode will be done would be a good time.  I'm
currently working on it and will hopefully be able to present
something in course of next week.  I'll be travelling the coming days
including the weekend, so I don't know if I'll have time to work on
the mode till the beginning of next week.

Yes.  Or we use a variable which can be let-bound during execution of
`TeX-fold-item'.  I'm not sure what the better solution would be.
