Follow-up Comment #14, bug #41561 (project avrdude):

Thanks for doing some testing.

I have completed the following tests.

SUMMARY - the issue is seems limited to the M64 MCU using any available
firmware

I attempted to write to various MCU's using a Usbasp with 2011_fischl
firmware.  ONLY THE M64 failed.

The M8, M328P , ATMega M2560 all worked fine


2. the problem persists trying to write to a M64 MCU using the following
firmwares : 2011_fischl, 2009_fischl, 2009_fischl_patched, chinese_unknown
source.

When testing the Fischl firmware I utilized the pre compiled firmware provided
from within the source from http://www.fischl.de/usbasp/

I dont believe the problem is related to the firmware
