That's the story before! With preview-latex. What I wanted to do today 
is to 'AUCTeX' another LaTeX file in another buffer in GNU Emacs. And 
before, as a good housekeeper, I made my house clean from yesterday's 
remnants (there's no-one else doing this, it's all left to me). Why is 
there a connection from preview-latex to display formulas to AUCTeX to 
convert LaTeX files into DVI or PDF files? And why do these connections 
extend to some completely different file?

And of course it's not the first time that this happened to me ... 
AUCTeX seems to need a big bright green pleasure machine, ähemm: reset 
button!
