Well, I preview-latex'ed some random file in some random locale with
some random command and did not have to clean up any garbage.

I am afraid that nobody will be able to help you if you don't supply a
recipe for reproducing the problem, including a step-by-step
description of what commands you issued, a minimal example file, and
missing information about your system, like the locale.
