aahhh!  Interesting, that might provide an explanation...

BTW, please don't be offended if I end up re-opening some of 'your' bugs.
I am getting better with bugzilla, but re-opening a bug is still much 
faster than submitting a new one.

BTW2: yesterday's JTree fix worked: the JTree nodes show up again in my
test applications, and tree selection works. However, scrolling the tree
inside the JScrollPane doesn't work at all at the moment. This might
also explain the slight rendering glitch in the attached screenshot:
note that the background does not fill the whole viewport. Also, at least
one of the filenames (second last from the bottom 'condor_mood_...')
extends beyond the default size of the tree.

BTW3: since about three days ago, even 'normal' menu-items on popup-menus
are extra-indented like CheckboxMenuItems: see attached screenshot. At the
moment, the main popup-menus and the 'navigation' and 'slideshow' submenus
of my JImageViewer test app are extra-indented, while the 'zoom' submenu 
is not. I have no idea how this can happen...
