I understand what you mean, but it is not really feasible, because it 
would become too hard to specify builddir if automake automatically 
adds srcdir.

No problem. I myself have made similar mistakes many times, so I now 
know how to fix it. :)

I attach a patch to this mail. I think this is very trivial, but if you 
need a copyright assignment, let me know.
