For the sake of an experiment you could try
re-building pnet with 

make distclean
./configure --disable-libgc
make

> #0  0x080e0058 in GC_FirstDLOpenedLinkMap () at
> dyn_load.c:494

I can't really say anything about this . We use
libgc from gcc CVS IIRC.

Rhys - any predictions on when we're going to import
the latest release ?.
