It is probably too early to start working on this, and I have *NO* experience with AS3 or JITs, but Tom Tromey is reporting some success in using LLVM for the GCJ JIT. As annoying as it is having to learn another library, it seems that LLVM has many positive qualities[1] that makes it an excellent candidate as a basis as a JIT.
