Dear John,

thanks for your introduction. I am looking forward to seeing
GnuMed and drugref.org hurry along.

I have felt in the past and do now again feel the need to recall
attention to the fact that GnuMed and drugref are
international efforts. It is easy to fall into the habit of
cutting corners for developer convenience (I have done so
myself). I should like to caution against doing that when it
comes to writing code for our projects. One of your roles
(besides pizza and caffeine supplies) might be to every once
in a while remind our developers of the international scope
and it's implications. I have tried to do that and generally
I'm on peoples' backs when it comes to that... :-)) But with
the RMITU man-power things may be moving to fast for me in
some areas (as I have a day job, wait, two, no, wait, a night
j.., well never mind, you get the picture).

I am not asking Australian developers to write code for Mexico
or Germany but I ask software architects to design in hooks and
provisions for us Germans to attach our needs to. This has
worked quite well until now. I hope it stays that way.

Another request: Please communicate copiously on the list.
Direct face-to-face shortcut communications will be very
effective for the RMITU crew working in your basement but
please don't make that leave the rest of us out of the loop.

A hearty welcome to you and "your" crew.

Karsten
