Mmm..   well, that certainly fixed it - run the /max-redo.sh with this result:

DatabaseError: FATAL:  Database "gnumed" does not exist in the system 
catalog.<#10-0x0A-lf><#10-0x0A-lf

Ie killed my gnumed database stone dead. CVS updated right now.

So logged on as root and ran the install db file, which returned an error 
"cannot bootstrap services". I meant to mention this to you before. It still 
must do something, because I can run gnumed, but don't know how the missing 
'services' whatever they are affect the database or the running of gnumed:

Below are the terminal messages, sans the dialog at the end about can't 
bootstrap services which was a popup message. Perhaps there is a log file 
somewhere I could access to show what happened.
