Carlos,

I won't get time to test this further. The gentoo ebuild for mod_perl-1.99.11 is now installed. I added -D PERL to /etc/conf.d/apache2, which loads the /etc/apache2/modules.d/*mod_perl* config, loads the module, and runs /etc/apache2/conf/modules.d/apache2-mod-perl-startup. The loading doesn't work though because it can't find Apache/Server.pm.

I'm not sure why, it first does "use Apache2 ();" then use Apache::Server so it should work...

this exists: /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/i686-linux/Apache2/Apache/Server.pm

and @INC:
(@INC contains: . . . /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/i686-linux . . . )

No more time, gotta go to bed.

David

Carlos,

There are mod_perl-1.99* ebuilds in /usr/portage/dev-perl/mod_perl. So I added "=dev-perl/mod_perl-1.99* ~x86" to /etc/portage/package.keywords. They have apache-2* as a dependancy. I always install things from source as a last resort, which means usually never. And if I do, I try to put them in /usr/local. Also, it is better to try getting a perl module from CPAN if it isn't in portage (probably that's what you did but I'm not sure).

Hi,

I've tried installing mod_perl in salaam, but doesn't work yet:

   1. Installing from portage crashes on compilation (!)
2. Installing from source, mod_perl 1, impossible, as we're running apache 2 and that requires apache 1.3
   3. Installing from source, mod_perl 2:
-added lines in twiki/bin/.htpasswd for using mod_perl (now commented out) -sources uncompressed, configured and compiled in /var/tmp/mod_perl-2.0 (after setting patch to apxs2) -/etc/apache2/conf/apache.conf -> added LoadModule perl... (now commented out)
            -restarted apache:

The ModPerl packages seem installed in /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5/i686-linux... I have no idea of perl tweaking... If anyone can give a glance... ;)

Best regards,

Carlos or David (or anyone) think a possible workaround (if not the solution) is offered by:

Can this be implemented at salaam? Alternatively if the above is seen as a bad idea or not worth trying, advise if I should submit a question at TWiki.org. It is just a bit odd that no-one else has complained about it there, given the version we are using was released this past September.
