Carlos,

There are mod_perl-1.99* ebuilds in /usr/portage/dev-perl/mod_perl. So I 
added "=dev-perl/mod_perl-1.99* ~x86" to /etc/portage/package.keywords. 
They have apache-2* as a dependancy. I always install things from source 
as a last resort, which means usually never. And if I do, I try to put 
them in /usr/local. Also, it is better to try getting a perl module from 
CPAN if it isn't in portage (probably that's what you did but I'm not sure).
