That is a real pitty. apt-get install gnumed-client and apt-get install 
gnumed-server will get you going.

Debian/Ubuntu is our preferred choice. I am working on openSUSE. I know that 
openSUSE medical is looking at packaging FreeDiams.

In principle we know that GNUmed works on MacOSX but I don't own a Mac and we 
have not yet regularly packaged dmg. There is an older dmg available but it is 
not the latest code.

I understand. Same here. We provide packages for Win32 as well.
